Centreville Bank Stadium Named “Best New Sports Venue” by Sports Industry Leaders

Centreville Bank Stadium has been recognized as the nation’s Best New or Renovated Sports Venue by SportsTravel magazine at the annual TEAMS Conference + Expo in Columbus, Ohio.

Centreville Bank Stadium General Manager Paul Byrne accepted the award before an audience of more than 500 sports-industry professionals from across the country.

“This recognition is a testament to the vision, dedication, and tireless efforts of our entire team,” said Byrne. “We’re incredibly grateful to our industry peers and community for their support. Centreville Bank Stadium is proud to offer a world-class venue that unites the community and creates unforgettable experiences at every event we host.”

A Win for Rhode Island Sports

The honor drew enthusiastic praise from Rhode Island sports and community leaders who have championed the stadium since its debut earlier this year.

“The energy in the room was overwhelming,” said Jonathan Walker, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Sports Commission. “This award will bring even more national attention — and business — to our state.”

Walker credited the stadium’s management and staff for their professionalism and dedication. “Working with Paul Byrne and the Centreville Bank Stadium team on major events like the 2025 Major League Rugby Championship has been incredible,” he said. “Their commitment, along with strong support from state and local officials, clearly gave them an edge in the final round of voting.”

A Point of Pride for Rhode Island

Governor Dan McKee praised the stadium’s impact, calling it “a source of pride for our state and an economic boost for local businesses.”

“From casting the tie-breaking vote to attending the sold-out inaugural RIFC match, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact this stadium has made,” McKee said. “It’s a symbol of exciting things to come.”

Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien added that the recognition reflects the city’s revitalization.
“Our community is proud of this addition to our skyline,” he said. “This award validates our shared vision for Pawtucket’s economic future.”

Built for Performance — and Sustainability

Editors at SportsTravel cited several factors for the award, including Centreville Bank Stadium’s sold-out debut game that drew 10,700 fans and its leadership in sustainability.

Partnering with Rhode Island Energy, the stadium was designed to be 100% electric — featuring all-LED lighting, advanced stormwater management, and comprehensive energy efficiency measures.

“This recognition reflects what’s possible when innovation and partnership come together,” said Greg Cornett, President of Rhode Island Energy. “We’re proud to have helped create one of the most sustainable venues in the country.”

The 69,000-square-foot facility includes air-conditioned spaces for concessions, team operations, and suites, along with energy-efficient HVAC systems, lighting, and low-flow plumbing. The result: an estimated savings of 100,000 kWh of electricity each year.

Driving Economic Growth

Local leaders view the stadium as a cornerstone of Pawtucket’s economic transformation.

“Centreville Bank Stadium has already positioned Pawtucket as a regional hub for sports, entertainment, and commerce,” said Gaetan L. Kashala, Executive Director of the Pawtucket Foundation.

James Toomey, Executive Director of the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council, noted that the venue is attracting visitors from across the region.

“This stadium has introduced new audiences to our restaurants, history, and culture,” Toomey said. “It’s helping drive tourism throughout the Blackstone Valley.”

A Growing Legacy

Since opening on May 3, 2025, Centreville Bank Stadium has hosted a variety of major events — from a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match and international soccer friendlies to Women’s Elite Rugby and the 2025 Major League Rugby Championship. It also serves as the home of Rhode Island FC, the defending USL Eastern Conference Champions.

Finalists for the SportsTravel award included notable venues in South Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Virginia, and Wyoming — making Centreville Bank Stadium’s victory all the more remarkable.

“Having the Centreville Bank name on this stadium reflects our deep commitment to the people and progress of our communities,” said Hal Horvat, President, CEO, and Chairman of Centreville Bank. “This award confirms what we believed from the start — that this venue would drive growth and pride across the region.”
